- Advocacy and education efforts helped dispute the proposal by the Trump Administration
to eliminate the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The program was
restored by the House and Senate, securing funding for FY 2018. - NEUAC convened the largest energy assistance conference in the nation in 2017 in
Fort Lauderdale, FL, hosting more than 600 energy professionals. Conference participation
increased by more than 10% compared to 2016. - NEUAC is growing and making our mark on the political landscape related to energy
assistance. In 2017, NEUAC increased membership in the organization by more than
45%, amplifying our voice when advocating for low-income populations. - The All-Parties Letter to Congress in support of LIHEAP garnered support from all
50 states and one U.S. Territory, totaling 1,293 signatures by interested organizations. - NEUAC established “Policy Update” email alerts to keep members and stakeholders apprised
of news as it happens in Washington, D.C. The updates also offer insight on the political
process, especially related to the federal budget. NEUAC breaks down the processes and
makes them understandable and relatable. - LIHEAP Action Month was timed perfectly to align with FY 2018 budget appropriations
committees. NEUAC organized efforts nationwide, established a social media calendar
taking the guesswork out of Twitter feeds, and developed valuable educational and
advocacy tools for grassroots organizations. The efforts made a difference. Congress
protected LIHEAP funding for 2018.
