Winter has finally arrived, even as far south as Georgia, and I can’t help but think of all our customers who are struggling with their bills during this turn of weather. When a big storm hits, everyone clogs the supermarkets to stock up on supplies and ensure they are prepared to be shut in if necessary.
Imagine if you had only days or hours left of heating fuel with a with a winter storm and sub-zero temperatures bearing down on you and your family. Imagine if your pipes were frozen and fresh water was not an option. Imagine it…and know how important your work is to families across the country.
LIHEAP Action Day is February 15. I personally challenge every board member to make an effort to be present and active during this important day of advocacy. The deadline for reserving a room in January 19 – make your plans today. (Details are below.)

The 2017 membership drive is underway and will last until 3/31/17 for membership in the organization for calendar year 2017. To renew your membership, go here: https://neuac.wpengine.com/membership/. You also may complete the fillable PDF and submit your check by mail to 4250 Fairfax Drive, Suite 600, Arlington, VA 22203. Two New Member Orientation sessions will be held (with identical content) on January 31 and February 7 to welcome new members – we currently have 11 new members to report. Celebrate this success by inviting your friends and coworkers to join NEUAC! Let’s bring people together to fight energy poverty!
I had a great conversation about advocacy (and our kids) with Tammy Embrey of NRECA at the end of December, and I met last week with Mark Wolfe of NEADA who is a font of knowledge. Also, I have set up monthly calls with HHS staff to share information with our Executive Board, and an invitation will be sent shortly to members inviting them to an HHS-led demonstration of the new data tool for LIHEAP. Stay tuned!
